My husband and I had our dream home build. I searched the net and liked what I saw on Keve’s site, so I visited her store. Keve is really good at listening and she really listens to her customers. Her soft skills are exceptional as are her design skills. She uses her skills as an extension of your personality and taste. It’s not about Keve, it’s all about you.

When Butterfields Interiors’ is your Interior Design partner they want you to “love it” and want your home to “reflect your personality” which makes the entire process such a great experience. Our office and entry are still in progress but I love them both, the office has very dramatic window treatments and the entry way although not finished is still very impactful with wall sconces, large mirror and chest but the guest room is my favorite.  The room is very traditional but there is a designer twist with a large contemporary rug and transitional lamps – very cool!

The Construction Details of
Quality’ Upholstery Construction

- Part 2 of a Series

The Tailoring of Quality Upholstery:

> Master Tailors ‘Four-Way’ match Patterns, This means Matching up Patterns on all four sides. This usually requires more Labor and Fabric.

> Tailors line Skirts with quality Linings and often with Buckram to keep their shape.

> Tailors cut welts (cording) on a Bias for smooth tailoring on round lines and edges, the Patterns are ‘Hand Cut’ for snug tailoring, no bumps and minimal puckering. Having a Fabric ‘behave’ correctly also has to do with the quality and the appropriateness of your selections.

> Quality Fabrics are used; they have Better Fiber Contents, Colors, Hand, Beauty, and Longevity.

> Furniture and Design Professionals will consider the ‘Fiber Content’ and how a fabric is ‘Woven’ for a good match with its intended use and environment. The Knowledge of Fibers and the construction of a fabric is important, for example, some fibers take the Dyes better, some absorb Moisture less, and there are still others that are more Durable etc. Always consult the Professionals!

What it may look like when the ‘Quality’ is missing:

> Does the Seat Cushion bottom out when you
sit on it?
> Does the Cushion have a permanent ‘body’ imprint?
> Are the Upholstery Cushions misshapen? even though the sofa is fairly new?
> Do you sit ‘on’ your sofa rather than ‘into it?’
> Can you feel the wood frame through the material?
? Are the arms losing their shape?
> Do your cushions push forward? Does the piece have elastic hooks to hold the cushion in place?
> Does the Sofa/Chair squeak or creak when you
sit on it?
> Are you afraid to have a large person sit on the sofa for fear the frame may split?
> Have you ever pulled your sofa across the room and the leg has fallen off?
> Does your sofa fit your body? Is there good
lumbar support?
> Is the Sofa worth recovering?
> Does the Pattern Match and line up on all four sides?
> What does the Fabric look like? What are the Color, Feel and Durability like?
> If you have a loosely woven fabric, is it properly backed? Or stretching or fraying at the seams?
